Sanyo PLV Z3000 – LCD projector – 1200 ANSI lumens – 1920 x 1080 – widescreen – High Definition 1080p Review

This is my third projector for HT use, I most recently upgraded from a plv-z3.
This PJ is great, I paired it with the GreyWolf screen and the picture is stunning, even in medium light. Much better daytime picture than any other HT projector I’ve seen. Also has a frame intermpolation algorithm that adds an amazing amount of realism to movies. Now that I’ve used the frame interpolation, I’m overly critical of theater movies and other PJs I’ve seen in action.

Would buy again.

Sanyo PLV Z3000 – LCD projector – 1200 ANSI lumens – 1920 x 1080 – widescreen – High Definition 1080p Overview

The PLV-Z3000 unleashes the full 1920 x 1080 high-definition potential from today’s advanced full HD sources. This means rich, deep and accurate colors from SANYO’s exclusive TopazReal HD. TopazReal HD brings together a team of technologies including a variable iris and lamp reactivity, a 14-bit digital signal processing, real-focus HD lens system, and, most importantly, a 3D color management system that addresses changes in color phase and color level to obtain perfect color reproduction. PLVZ3000 uses 120Hz super-fast Full HD panel, which can increase smoothness in videos due to doubled frame rate from 60 frames/second to 120 frames/second using interpolation frame generation technology. The optimization of deep color from the color management system is supported via the projector’s two HDMI 1.3 inputs.

Sony VPL-ES2 Multimedia LCD Projector 1500ANSI Lumens Review

Despite the low 350:1 contrast ratio claimed by the manufacturer, at 800×600 resolution, this little budget projector delivers decently in giant screen entertainment.

Picture quality is at maximum when you set up the unit in a nearly pitch black room. The contrast is at its best around 85 and the brightness at around 65: daylight scenes look good even on a white wall, but the low contrast ratio of 350:1 is really bad for movies with excessive dark scenes and shadows. The black level adjuster is somewhat a reduntant feature as it washes out shadows further from darker scenes.

The focus range is not to my liking since I had the projector set up in a somewhat small room with lots of objects hanging from the wall: The projector can achieve a screen size of over 40″ within a 1.4 meter throwing distance. It’s good for someone who wants a giant bright screen in a very confined space.

As the projector has only a trapezoidal keystone corrector, it is limited to be installed to face the projection wall / screen at a perpendicular angle. Therefore, celing mount may be a good idea if you want to sit close to the center of the screen.

The light source / lamp is claimed to be able to last for 4000 hours under standard brightness setting; with the replacement lamp at around USD 300 locally, it may be time for a projector upgrade when you burn out the 5th bulb.

Considering how cheap this projector is (the cinema standard high-end Sony VPL-HS50 with 6000:1 contrast ratio goes for USD 2600 over here in KL), this Sony VPL-ES2 is worth pretty much every cent you pay for, and if you’re sick of LCD projection technology by the end of the unit’s third lamp life, you wouldn’t have to think too long before going out to find yourself a Sony 40″ LCD screen that cost 7 times more than the projector but has a backlight that lasts around
60,000 hours.

Sharp XR-1X Ultra-Portable DLP Video Projector -1200 Lumens XGA Review

When I bought this I had no idea how good it is, especially when I compare it to other models out there now. DLP, auto-imaging, Carl-Zeis lens, mouse-remote for USB presentations, and the list goes on with it’s remarkable resolution and quality build. Sometimes you buy something and have buyer’s regret, but not with this one. Oh boy, when I look around and compare with what’s around locally, I can’t believe how much I got in this tiny package. Since I move around a lot, this is my TV to have. I use it for PS2, Web surfing, and DVD & Dvr watching. I simply project with a screen, yep you heard it, directly on the wall, making a 20ft+ sized super wall of video. It’s so large with such great detail thanks to the resolution, that I often have 1 window surfing the web, while in the adjacent window my wife and I recline watching our DVR recordings together. Much better than slouching over my laptop, you bet!

Sanyo PLV Z60 – LCD projector – 1200 ANSI lumens – 1280 x 720 – widescreen Review

I have been using a Sony 1272 CRT projector for the last 8.5 years. It has served us well and we’ve been pleased with it. A few months ago it started having some deflection problems and, not knowing how to fix it myself or knowing anyone around who could fix it, I decided it was time to retire the old projector. Our theater room seating is about 12′ – 14′ away from the 92″ 16:9 screen. We have decent but not great ambient light control. I read all the reviews I could find on the Sanyo and the only real knock anyone gave it was that it wasn’t as bright as some other similar projectors. I considered a couple of 1080P projectors but given our distance from the screen and it’s size, I felt confident that screen door effect wouldn’t be an issue. This met my specs so I went ahead and ordered it. It’s now a discontinued model so it’s becoming more difficult to find but got a good deal here at Amazon.

So I’ve got it installed now. The best word I can use to describe it is WOW! This is a significant upgrade over what I had. The brightness issue is silly because, even if it’s not as bright as some other projectors, it’s still way brighter than my old projector. And the sharpness and color right out of the box were fantastic. It’s great to see my Blu-Ray’s truly shine now. The menu system is easy to use and I tweaked the settings a little based on one of the reviews at [...]. Looks even better now. I don’t think I could be more pleased with my purchase. And I’m glad I saved the [...]+ I would’ve had to spend on a 1080P unit as the sharpness and resolution looks great at our seating distance on that screen size.

My recommendation is that if you can still find one for under 0, go for it. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.
