Full HD Widescreen Projector Review

I saw this PJ in action last night. The source was a Sony BluRay DVD player and a BR pressing of Spiderman 2. The picture clarity was amazing. Rock solid image with (not surprisingly) incredible definition. I can’t, however give it 5 stars. Perhaps the colour calibration was not perfect (altough Sony reps were on hand so “their bad” if they set it up poorly) – in particular the reds were far too prominent.

This is a 3 chip, native 1920×1080 unit, so no colour wheel and, hence, no rainbow effects. It also runs super quiet (again, no wheel) and pushes surprisingly little air out of the read-ported vent. The air that was coming out *was* pretty hot, so any room that hosts this bad boy should have good ventilation.

It’s an attractive unit and, stealing from Apple, the “sony” logo is rear-lit when the unit is turned on. The screen was a pretty small Stewart Filmscreens Greyhawk, so contrast ratios were additionally boosted. Due to the small size, the image was exceptionally bright.

At this resolution, it was interesting to note how clearly computer generated the Spiderman scene appeared. On SD units, there’s enough softening of the edges to hide the CG nature of the image and complete the illusion. At HiDef res, however, the blue-screen and CG became quite obvious.

At under K for a 3-chip DLP, Sony have really thrown down the gauntlet with this one. Expect competitors to follow and hopefully we’ll all be able to afford something of this spec within just a few more years.

Epson Moviemate 25 Projector DVD & Music Player Combo Review

I got mine refurbished. After weeks of reviewing websites about projectors, I decided to give this one a shot. I bought a 92 inch screen and the picture looks awesome. I was a little worried about the so-called “screen door effect” that many had mentioned (due to the lower resolution), but that is not a big deal to me for the price range. I don’t even notice it unless I’m trying to see it.
The first movie I played in it was Pearl Harbor. That war scene in the harbor with the Moviemate connected via optical cable to my surround sound, gave me goosebumps. I never have to go to the movies again. It really is like having your own theater at home.
We also hooked up my sons Playstation 2. That is pretty cool, too.
The speaker sound w/ the subwoofer is pretty good, too.
All of the other features and the remote I like, also.
I have my Moviemate about 12 feet from the screen to fill the 92 inch diagnal screen.
Oh, the adjustable lens is so cool. Its the only projector I’ve seen with this feature and I don’t know why. It really comes in handy to center the picture where you want it.

I recommend this product for anyone looking for a projector. For a few hundred more dollars, you can get one with a higher resolution so the picture is “crystal” clear, but you’ll be lacking a lot of the other cool features.

Sanyo PLV Z3000 – LCD projector – 1200 ANSI lumens – 1920 x 1080 – widescreen – High Definition 1080p Review

This is my third projector for HT use, I most recently upgraded from a plv-z3.
This PJ is great, I paired it with the GreyWolf screen and the picture is stunning, even in medium light. Much better daytime picture than any other HT projector I’ve seen. Also has a frame intermpolation algorithm that adds an amazing amount of realism to movies. Now that I’ve used the frame interpolation, I’m overly critical of theater movies and other PJs I’ve seen in action.

Would buy again.

Senario AL-100 Torpedo Entertainment and Game Proj Review

I purchased this exact item from another site and I ordered a 5′ x 9′ piece of projector fabric to create a large, opaque white screen. I ordered this for my 6 year old’s “Saturday Movie Matinee” Birthday party, because I wanted to do something different besides the pizza place, hamburger place, jumpy bouncey place, etc. party. We’re going to set a room up like a movie theatre and play one of the new animated releases for the kids, with pop corn and movie snacks.

I have read many reviews and complaints about this projector, but for what it is and for the money – it works great. We have been testing this item the past 2 nights and so far, so good. We are able to get a pretty large screen, maybe 3′ x 4′ and the quality is “good.” I would compare the viewing quality to that of a drive-in movie. It’s not going to be super crisp like your TV and the colors could be sharper, but my kids think it is awesome! We haven’t even tried this with the video games yet.

Also – this projector does not require total darkness, which I’ve seen in many other reviews. We are able to view the movie on the wall just fine at one end of our bedroom, with a lamp on at the other end. However, the darker the room, the sharper the image appears. I would also add that movies with a brighter, lighter background are easier to view, than movies with a darker background. The movie sound is really good and I don’t find the projector fan sound distracting – at all. In fact, I think it kind of adds to the “movie” experience. Of note, you must have a live feed for this projector to work. You have to START the DVD for the projector to project the image onto the wall. Otherwise, you will see absolutely nothing or just a teentsy, tiny, little menu on the wall and you will be scratching your head and changing out the cables, trying to figure what’s wrong. Trust me….we know!!

Sanyo PLV-1080HD High Definition 1080p LCD Home Theater Projector Review

I have a 1080P and a 720P HD Plasma in my house as well as another 720P projector so ordering this thing was a no brainer when building my dedicated theater. I was however a bit concerned that other positive reviews on here were a bit overstated and the unit may not have been put through the level of scrutiny I was about to unleash on this unit after I opened and unpacked it from the box. Out of box experience: This unit is packed very nice and it’s very simple to grasp what needs to go where. Install: Not a ton of setup here just hang it from the ceiling change the pic format to now be upside right (ceiling setting) and adjust focus, angle and size/ throw. The unit does not have a keystone adjuster but this is easily remedied by tilting/ angling the unit upwards higher than normal and adjusting the vertical lens adjuster/ control back down to center the pic your screen. Operation: The unit is way quite with hardly any noise at all, it does not seem to run as hot or as loud as my 720P unit. Very nice backlit remote is well laid out with all the right quick buttons on it. On Screen Menu is easy for even the non-audiophiles and adjustments are easy as well. Quality: I am blown away that this thing only costs what it did from Amazon, this unit has made me re-think all of my pre-order reservations and jitters. Very good build quality and it has an auto lens door making it even more of bonus, plenty of input options here as well. Overall: I love this unit and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking at obtaining a projector, the performance for price just can’t be matched. Every audiophile / A/V friend that has stopped by does not want to leave after minutes of viewing this unit’s epic picture and many have said this setup has destroyed their (now) sub-par HD home viewing. I am using the Elite 120″ fixed CineWhite screen also bought here (link – Elite Screens EzFrame Fixed Frame Projection Screen, 16:9 Aspect Ratio – 120in. (Cine White)) and between this unit and the screen the viewing is every bit as good as my 1080P 55″ HD Plasma running Blu Ray or HD cable. I do not work for Amazon, Sanyo or Elite and I have no reason for telling you this unit is simply “it” other than I hope my review helps you to get with the program and buy this unit if you’re in the market for one – I’m kicking myself for not doing so sooner. Thank you Sanyo for hitting the mark on this one, the performance you offer here and the price is on point!

Cons: My original unit had to be replaced with another new unit, the first one had some bulb/ IC issues (I think) giving off a burning smell and powering down on its own with a fail indication. HOWEVER I would NOT trade this new unit for anything PERIOD!!!! The exchange with Amazon was painless minus a few days for the new exchange and now I am as blown away as all my friends every time I turn it on. No issues with this new replacement unit whatsoever. Lets face it this is technology we are talking about and everything you can buy retail will never have a 100% perfect quality control factor or an MTBF rating that is flawless – everything made has defects on some level. A majority of the time companies get it right and sometimes parts may fail on one in every so many units its just part of life. Sanyo has produced a great machine here and I encourage you to buy it. .

This is an awesome product for the price. Amazing really with hdmi, the two downfalls are the replacement bulbs are really hard to come by and expensive. The other is the pixels are quite large making it a little hard to read writing on the screen. On the up side, this unit does have a television in it, which is hard to find. I have had this unit about a year and has performed as expected for the price you can’t beat it.
